Chris Driggens
On July 21st, 2006, Christopher Driggins Founded BEBSO Inc. (Short for Birdman’s Exotic Bird Sanctuary & Orphanage)

After rescuing parrots for four years with his former nonprofit, Chris rapidly noticed an increase in the number of relinquished parrots that where disabled, elderly, blind and special needs parrots, which were in need of special care. They’ve been relinquished to us, as parrots that need special care or Hospice care. It seemed that once the public learned about our no kill policy, distraught parrot owners lined up to relinquish their parrots.

So Chris dedicated a special sanctuary division for those parrots that had poor chance of ever finding a forever home with dedicated, experienced parrot handlers, like him. So He created BEBSO Inc.

We focus on the needs and welfare of orphaned exotic birds in Southwest Washington region and Portland Oregon metro areas. This has expanded since its formation.

Our BEBSO Sanctuary is a parrot welfare organization that provides for the complete physical, psychological and environmental well-being of the parrots in the organization’s care.

BEBSO ensures that the parrots remain in a sanctuary or in rehabilitation, and are placed into educated and dedicated forever homes with Godparents.

Our organization also provides sanctuary for all exotic birds that are not suitable for adoption or placement. These parrots will remain at BEBSO indefinitely and require ongoing food and vet bills. Sponsorship of these parrots is available to help offset the costs.

We maintain a special hospice area for elderly parrots as well as parrots that are mentally ill, maimed, extreme self-mutilated parrots that need special around the clock care. Some of our clients specifically request that their parrot be placed in foster care or remain in permanent sanctuary.

All sanctuary parrots receive the same high level of care as the parrots available for adoption and foster care. Sanctuary birds are housed in species-specific rooms of our main facility and have access to outdoor flights, abundant enrichment, and psychological and environmental support on a daily basis.

The facilities provide: A safe haven for parrots that prefer not to interact with humans in a companion animal situation as well as those that need a new human companion and are available for adoption.

BEBSO offers a home for parrots with chronic disease with supportive care and a nurturance. Staff dedicated to meet the needs of the individual bird.

Educational programs that focus on some of the sanctuary birds’ specific needs or problems, indigenous habitats, conservation status, or social interaction to promote parrot welfare.

BEBSO receives in Parrots found in deplorable conditions or in danger either by the general public, the foundation itself, or by animal control officers. Parrots owned by owners who, because they were unable to provide a safe environment for the birds, turned the birds over to us.

Through the education of the public, proper legal documentation, extensive support services, and constant follow-up procedures, we are a bird welfare organization that ensures that whether the birds remain in a sanctuary or can be rehomed.

BEBSO defines “to give sanctuary” is to bring a bird that is in an acute, life threatening situation or is in immediate need of assistance into a safe warm environment to be cared for by a knowledgeable and dedicated staff committed to improving the bird’s quality of life.
